PM mourns loss of lives in Kalka Mail derailment

PM Manmohan Singh expressed sorrow at the loss of lives in a rail accident in Uttar Pradesh and directed the Railway Ministry to deploy all available resources in the area for rescue and relief operations.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday expressed sorrow at the loss of lives in a rail accident in Uttar Pradesh and directed the Railway Ministry to deploy
all available resources in the area for rescue and relief
operations.

Singh also spoke to the Minister of State for Railways
about the incident.

"The Prime Minister has expressed deep sorrow and
shock at the loss of lives caused by the accident at Malwa
station involving the Kalka Mail," a statement from the PMO
said.

It said he has spoken to the Minister of State for
Railways and to the Chairman, Railway Board and instructed
that all available resources in the area be deployed for
rescue and relief operations.

The statement said the Ministry of Railways has
already announced ex-gratia relief to the next of kin of those
killed and also to those injured in the accident.

The accident occurred when 13 bogies of Delhi-bound
Kalka Mail from Howrah derailed near Malwa station in Fatehpur
today.
