Police arrest Maoist linkman, claim had links with Trinamool

An alleged Maoist linkman Karuna Mahto was arrested in Cuttack on Monday by West Bengal police which claimed that he had links with the Trinamool Congress.

"West Bengal police informed the commissionarate of
police here that Mahto was a local leader of Trinamool
Congress. He has been taken by West Bengal police on remand,"
Commissioner of Police (CP) B K Sharma said here.

Mahto (55) was among the three persons who accompanied
two injured persons from West Bengal to SCB Medical College
Hospital in Cuttack.

"Mahto was arrested by Bengal police following on
complaint against him in their state," Sharma said, adding
that during interrogation Mahto had also admitted that he
worked as a local leader of Trinamool Congress at Jharagram
block.

Mahto and two other persons had brought two suspected
Maoists identified as Deben Marandi and Manik Soren to Cuttack
for treatment. Both Soren and Marandi had sustained injuries,
probably due to explosion of a landmine.

Sources said West Bengal police had earlier booked
Mahto in two cases relating to murder and sedition.

Sharma said Soren and Marandi were recovering and
police would initiate action against them after interrogation.
