Police asked to expedite probe against two in blasts cases

A court here on Saturday asked the Delhi Police to expedite its probe into the cases pertaining to the serial blasts in the capital on September 13, 2008 and file a status report before it.

Police to expedite its probe into the cases pertaining to the
serial blasts in the capital on September 13, 2008 and file a
status report before it.

Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Snehi Mann directed the
Special Cell, anti-terror wing of the Delhi Police to apprise
the court about the progress made by them with regard to its
investigations against two suspected Indian Mujahideen
terrorists -- Shahjad and Salman.

Delhi Police is yet to initiate its arguments on framing
of charges against the accused in the matter.

They had sought time for the purpose on the ground that
they were still investigating the role of the two absconding
accused Shahzad and Salman who have been arrested on February
one and March five respectively.

The court, meanwhile, directed Assistant Commissioners of
Police (ACPs) Sanjeev Yadav and Bisham Singh to be present on
next date of hearing on April 17 to intimate it about the
progress of their investigation with regard to the two accused
as the matter could only proceed with the filing of
chargesheet against them.

Meanwhile, accused Zia-ur Rehman, who filed an
application seeking permission to appear in BA Pass
examinations beginning from April 13 at Jamia Millia Islamia
University, was asked by the court to approach proper
authorities in the matter.

Another accused Mohd Shakeel, who is also to appear in
the undergraduate examinations from the same University, has
been granted permission by the apex court on March 31.

The court is conducting proceedings in the matter through
video conferencing as 11 accused are at present lodged at
Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad their alleged role in serial
blasts there. One Mohd Hakim is produced from Tihar jail here.

A total of five cases were registered in connection with
the serial blasts in the capital on September 13, 2008 which
killed 26 people and injured over 135 others.

Out of the 14 arrested accused, 11 are lodged in the
Sabarmati jail while Md Hakim, Shahzad and Salman are in Tihar
jail here.

Mohd Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Mohd Shakeel, Zia-ur Rehman,
Saquib Nissar, Quamuddin Kapadia and Mohd Sadiq Sheikh, who
have been chargesheeted in blasts cases here, are in
Ahmedabad.

Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy, Mobin Kader Sheikh, Akbar Ismail
Chaudhary and Asif Basir Sheikh, who are accused of sending
terror emails to different media houses minutes before the
serial blasts, have also been taken to Ahmedabad.

All the accused have been chargesheeted under various
provisions of the IPC, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention)
Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
