New Delhi: In a bid to water down the controversy with its ally Nationalist Congress Party, the Congress on Wednesday said that everybody was entitled to their own opinion.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi`s comments in a recent interview, NCP leader and Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel earlier on Wednesday said that any judicial pronouncement on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi`s alleged involvement in the post-Godhra riots should be accepted and not be questioned further.

"We are in an era when we believe that the judicial system is the final recourse to getting justice on Any issue or to bring finality to any controversy and if the judicial system has given any pronouncement, we ought to respect it. We will not question it further," PTI quoted Patel as saying here.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had recently attacked the Gujarat CM in a television interview accusing his government of abetting and pushing the 2002 riots in the state.

Reacting to Patel`s statement, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: "All political parties are entitled to an opinion on political issues. (NCP leader) Praful Patel is entitled to his own opinion.”

"Justice for the crimes committed by any individual, group or party is a prerequisite for our law and Constitution.”

"We will only request that the judicial process needs to be expedited. Anybody guilty should be punished in accordance with the law," he said.

Patel had said it was for each one to give his or her version in an interview but politics was based on perception of not just the politicians but the public too.

"But the fact remains that if the judicial system has given certain finality to any controversy, then we should let it rest there," the NCP leader said.
Another allied leader Farooq Abdullah, a Union Minister who belongs to the National Conference, did not want to wade into the Narendra Modi controversy.

He merely remarked whether Narendra Modi wins or loses it will be the people of India who will decide who will be the prime minister.
