New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday told a
court I Delhi that the probe against Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah
Geelani, writer Arundhati Roy and four others in a case of
of sedition for their alleged anti-India speeches, was still
inconclusive.
In a status report, filed in the court of Metropolitan
Magistrate Navita Kumari Bagha, the Station House Officer
(SHO) of Tilak Marg Police Station said that the probe in the
case has not concluded.
As the Magistrate did not hold the court on Friday, the
hearing was deferred to May 5.
The report was submitted on behalf of the SHO, who has
sought exemption from personal appearance.
Meanwhile, complainant Sushil Pandit said that he
would move a fresh application seeking transfer of case either
to the Crime Branch or to the Special Cell of Delhi Police for
early conclusion of the investigation.
"The mandatory 90 days period for filing the
charge sheet is also nearing end and the police are still
probing the case", Pandit said.
Earlier, the Police had sought more time from the
court to conclude the probe.
"The investigation is under progress and more time is
required to conclude the same", the Police had said in its
report.
The court had also clubbed three other complaints on
the same issue against Geelani, Roy and others for making the
alleged anti-India speeches.
Besides Geelani and Roy, the complaint sought
prosecution of five others, including Delhi University
professor SAR Geelani, who was acquitted in Parliament
attack case and Sheikh Showkat Hussain, a professor of
Kashmir University.
According to the complaint, the accused made the
comments at a convention here in October last year on `Azadi-
The Only Way`. Hurriyat leader Geelani shared the dais with
Roy and pro-Maoist leader Varavara Rao among others. Geelani
was heckled by the audience.
The complaint filed under Section 156 (3) of the
Criminal Procedure Code in the court on November one had
alleged that the government had miserably failed to initiate
any action against the "culprits of the anti-India seminar so
a private complaint against them has been filed".
The Hurriyat leader had been asked by the Police not to
leave the capital till further orders.
