Amethi: With the vision to ensure better
connectivity to his constituency with other parts of the
world, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi today launched
3G services in Gauriganj and Musafirkhana.
After Sarvan, which became first village in the country
to get connected with Fibre-To-The Panchayat (FTTP), a scheme
enabling villagers to access broadband services and cable TV,
Gauriganj and Musafirkhana witnessed telecom revolution with
the launch of 3G services.
"Our objective is to bridge the rural-urban and rich and
poor divide. You (telecom officers) are doing it with the
technology, I am doing this through politics. We are doing the
same job," Rahul said while launching 3G services in his
parliamentary constituency.
The Congress leader said in the past people had to wait
for long and there was a queue for a telephone connection.
"I remember that when I was a boy my father used to
get a number of recommendations for the telephone
connections," he said.
He noted the picture had changed and now almost every
person has the cellphone and the service has reached to every
village.
"The work started by my father and Sam (Pitroda) has
today connected the entire country through telephone," Rahul
said.
The Congress leader said telecom officers have a
challenge before them. "I have firm belief that they will
deliver the goods."
Rahul said there were two types of India - one of
opportunities, cities and rich and another of village and
poor.
"When we started 60-70 years back majority of the people
were poor. After development there are two types of people -
one who are getting opportunities and others who are not," he
said.
He said the task was to create an environment where all
people get an opportunity.
"The task is to bridge the gap and this is what
development means," he said.
While advocating entry of youths in the politics, the
Congress leaders said they should get an opportunity.
"We should open the door so that new people can come in.
We should bring more and more youths in the politics," he
said.
The Congress leader made a video call and was also given
a demonstration of tele-medicine on the occasion.
