New Delhi: Temperatures took a dip in North India on Sunday as most parts of the region were lashed by rains while higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand witnessed a fresh bout of snowfall.
Delhittes woke upto a cloudy weather today while some parts experienced slight rains.
In Himachal Pradesh, the biting cold wave conditions continued without any let up in most parts of the state as minimum temperatures further dropped by one to two deg even as stormy conditions abated.
The state capital Shimla shivered at minus 0.2 deg
The minimum temperatures dropped to minus 4 and minus 2.5 deg C at Kalpa and Keylog in tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti which received 40 cms and 15 cms of snow.
Meanwhile, heavy snowfall, accompanied with strong winds persisted in upper parts of the Uttarakhand, confining people indoors.
Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri among other areas received snowfall this morning, plummeting temperatures in the region.
Further north, the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley reeled under severe cold conditions with the weather office sounding an avalanche warning in snow-bound areas of north Kashmir.
Summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius, slightly down from the previous night`s 3.1 degrees Celsius.
The scenic resort of Gulmarg recorded a minimum of -11.2 deg while Pahalgam in south Kashmir registered a low of -0.5 degrees C.
In the plains, moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Punjab
and Haryana for the second consecutive day even as minimum temperature hovered above normal in the region.
Chandigarh, the capital of both the states, received 7 mm of rains last night with the minimum temperature settling at 11.4 degrees C, two notches above the normal.
Panchkula, Kalka, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Sonepat were among other places in Haryana to be lashed by rains. Meanwhile, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala were some of the places in Punjab to be drenched by heavy rainfall.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred in parts of Uttar Pradesh with the Ballia district reording the lowest temperature at 5.5 degree Celsius.
Muzaffaranagar received 5 cm rainfall while Varanasi and Bahraich got 4 cm each.
Light to moderate rainfall were reported in several parts of desert state of Rajasthan with Pilani recording a maximum of 46.6 mm rains.
