Raipur, June 19: Though assembly elections in Chhattisgarh are more than a year away, the ruling BJP has started drawing strategies to beat anti-incumbency and retain
power in the tribal state. BJP president Rajnath Singh to arrive today to finalise the poll strategy.

Senior BJP leaders told media that the party wants to start its poll preparation well in advance to overcome the anti-incumbency factor, a regular trend in most of the states,
and smoothen rough edges in the party to enable it to perform well at the hustings.

It was in this connection that BJP national secretary Dharmendra Pradhan, who is in-charge of Chhattisgarh, arrived here yesterday.

"We are here to discuss with all leaders (about poll preparation) and let see what happens," was Pradhan's brief reply when asked about the agenda of his visit.

A committee has also been formed to chalk out a comprehensive poll strategy and once it submits its report further steps will be taken, the BJP leaders said, adding Pradhan would be meeting the panel members.

BJP president Rajnanth Singh is also scheduled to meet senior party leaders of the state here today before finalising the poll strategy, they said.

A two-day meeting would be held to evaluate the performance of ministers in the Raman Singh cabinet by Rajnath and Pradhan. Chief Minister Singh is facing pressure to induct new faces in his cabinet, the leaders said.

The term of the BJP government ends in December 2008.
