New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day Friday as the opposition stalled the proceedings demanding a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the Indian Premier League (IPL) controversy.

After the house resumed its sitting at 2.30 pm following an adjournment in the pre-lunch session, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members SS Ahluwalia and Prakash Javadekar were on their feet demanding a JPC probe into the IPL row.

Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan said the house will discuss the working of the ministry of housing and poverty alleviation, but the BJP members were not willing to listen.

They were joined by Left and AIADMK members in demanding a JPC probe.

As the opposition members insisted on their demand and shouted slogans, Khan adjourned the house for the day.

Earlier at the zero hour, BJP members led by Ahluwalia, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Javadekar protested the snowballing IPL controversy.

Amidst the din, the deputy chairman asked for official papers to be laid on the table of the house and urged Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan to list the business for the next week.

But the pandemonium continued. Failing to restore order, Khan adjourned the house till 2.30 pm.
