RSS Chief concerned with widening gulf between rich and poor

Observing that the gulf between the rich and poor people has widened since economic liberalisation, the RSS supremo Mohan Bhagwat advocated economic reforms to usher in socio-economic equity and eradication of poverty.

Motihari: Observing that the gulf between
the rich and poor people has widened since the country adopted
economic liberalisation, the RSS supremo Mohan Rao Bhagwat
on Wednesday advocated economic reforms to usher in socio-economic
equity and eradication of poverty.
"It`s a matter of concern that the people of India are
poor even as the country is rich," he said at an informal
interaction with the local people and intellectuals at a RSS
function in Bihar`s East Champaran district.

There was a need for economic reforms with an emphasis
on eradication of poverty as well as strengthening the rural
economy with a view to generating employment and economic
empowerment of the rural people, Bhagwat said.

The eradication of poverty and economic development at
the grassroot level was the key to the country becoming an
economic power house globally, he said.
The RSS supremo disapproved the thrust on
capital-driven economy and described it as a dangerous
phenomenon saying that the country will be successful in its
primary agenda of eradication of poverty only if it works on
the principle of self-reliance and self-pride.

Bhagwat urged the people to look for self-employment
and agriculture related activities for their empowerment as it
was not possible for any government to give employment to
all its youths.
