SI Vetrivel’s murder: Man surrenders before court

A 27-year old man on Tuesday surrendered before a court here in connection with the killing of a Sub Inspector in Tirunelveli district on January 7.

before a court here in connection with the killing of a Sub
Inspector in Tirunelveli district on January 7.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sundaramoorthy remanded the man,
Suresh, hailing from Srivaikundam, to judicial custody till
January 25.

SI Vetrivel was killed by a gang in broad daylight, in a
case of mistaken identity, minutes before the convoy of
Ministers M R K Paneerselvam and T P M Mohideen Khan passed
the spot, according to police.

Vetrivel had bled to death after crying for help, with
the two ministers and officials accompanying them being
witness to his plight.

The ministers and officials had come under attack after
video footage aired on TV channels showed them standing by
watching the SI`s plight and not providing him timely help to
rush him to hospital.
