Sri Lankans arrested in Mumbai, gold worth Rs 2 cr seized

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has arrested seven Sri Lankan nationals alongwith an Indian and seized gold biscuits worth about Rs 2 crore in the international market from them.

and seized gold biscuits worth about Rs 2 crore in the
international market from them.

According to DRI sources, Abdul Kadar, Abdul Rahim, Komu
Abdulla, Mohammed Jessel, Abdul Naeem, Mohayadeen Gain, Sehu
Mohammed (all Sri Lankans) and city-resident Vijay Mali were
nabbed from a hotel in South Mumbai with 84 gold biscuits in
their possession.

The accused were staying at Hotel Aman in Masjid Bunder
area. The Sri Lankans arrived here from Colombo yesterday and
were about to meet Mali, who was to receive the contraband.

They were arrested last night and produced before the
magistrate this evening.

Advocate Ravi Hirani, who appeared for the accused, said
that they were falsely implicated and they were not aware that
they were carrying gold biscuits.

All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody
till May 21.
