Panjim: The Goa Police has alerted the Indian Navy after a suspicious boat was spotted close to the coastline in the Indian waters. The Goa Marine Police and Coast Guard received the intelligence input from Maharashtra about the suspicious boat following which it alerted the Navy.

The ship was spotted in the Arabian Sea sailing towards the Goa coast by some fishermen who reported the matter to the authorities Thursday night. The Customs authorities have also been alerted about the vessel.

"We were informed by Goa police about such movement of the ship. But we are still verifying the reports," Captain
Manohar Nambiar, public relation officer, Indian Navy said.

There were no specific details about the vessel. The
information did not even mention whether it was a large ship
or small trawler-like vessel, a senior police official said.

The Goa police has arranged for helicopters and patrolling vessels to keep a close watch on the movements in the sea.

Goa police said that according to the inputs, the boat
was supposed to touch the state`s coast this morning.

"These days there is hardly any ship movement in the
sea due to rough weather. So, if there is any vessel, it is
not difficult to locate it," Deshpande said.
On Thursday, the Mumbai Anti-Terror Squad had alerted the city police about a possible attack from across the border. The Mumbai ATS had hinted that Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Indian Mujahideen are reviving their network in Maharashtra and planning yet another attack after last year’s Mumbai terror strikes.

The Mumbai ATS warning also mentioned that the new terror plans are being plotted at the behest of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.
