Throw Ranganath Commission report in dustbin: VHP

VHP today sought the government to "throw" the Ranganath Mishra Commission report into the "dustbin", saying the recommendations, if accepted, may lead to a class struggle and even civil war in the country.

New Delhi: VHP today sought the government
to "throw" the Ranganath Mishra Commission report into the
"dustbin", saying the recommendations, if accepted, may lead
to a class struggle and even civil war in the country.

"If Ranganath Misra Commission is accepted, the first
consequence will be the development of dissatisfaction, class
struggle. It may also lead to a civil war in the country," VHP
spokesperson Surendra Jain told reporters here.

He described the report, which was tabled in Lok Sabha on
Dec 18, as an "open dacoity" of the rights of the people
belonging to backward class and scheduled categories.

"Ranganath Misra Commission has recommended for 15 per
cent reservation to minority groups, 10 per cent for Muslims
and 5 per cent for other minority groups. This will only be
done by reducing the (present) share of reservation provided
to backward class," he said.

Describing the recommendation as "unconstitutional", Jain
said, "Government should re-consider its intention and should
not divide the country just for votes."

If recommendations of the Commission are accepted, it
will bring "storm of (religious) conversions" and affect the
status of SC and ST as enshrined in the Constitution, he said.
"This will also strengthen the feeling of division which
is already present in some sections of Muslim and Christian
communities," he said.

"VHP appeals the government of India that all
recommendations of Ranganath Commission should be withdrawn
and the report should be thrown in its right place which is
dustbin," Jain said adding, "we completely reject it."
