New Delhi: Train mishaps have "consistently declined" and have come down to 77 in 2011-12 from 335 in 2001-02 barring the ones at unmanned level crossings, the government said on Friday.
Train accidents such as collision, derailments, manned level crossing accidents, fire in trains have declined from 335 in 2001-02...And further to 77 in 2011-12," Minister of State for Railways K J S Prakash Reddy said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
To a separate reply on the issue of black marketing of tatkal tickets, he said that during this financial year upto October, 103 railway employees have been found involved in irregularities and disciplinary actions were taken.
Besides, 23 authorised agents have been hauled up under provisions of Railways Act.
However, he said the scope for misuse of tatkal scheme has been drastically reduced following the introduction of mandatory ID proof for passengers to carry during journey.
