Thiruvananthapuram: Lashing out at the UPA
Government`s priorities in the first 100 days, CPI-M leader
Brinda Karat on Monday said the government had been pushing its
`neo-liberal` agenda vigorously in total disregard of farmers
and commonman.

Acting under US pressure, Government had devoted its first
hundred days to push its neo liberal policies, many of which
were kept under wraps when the UPA was surviving with the Left
support, Karat, a CPI-M politburo member alleged at a
meet-the-press here.

Asking the government to come clean on its claim of
striving to break the impasse on Doha round of trade
negotiations, she said even Parliament was not taken into
confidence on such vital issues.

It was all the more serious that the government was pressing
ahead with its liberal policies when the farming sector was
was in deep distress, she said.

The UPA regime had not bothered about taking effective
measures to rein in soaring prices and its policy of targeting
the public distribution system had taken out large sections
from the ambit of food security and resulted in sharp cut in
foodgrain allocation to states, she alleged.

Lauding the LDF government in Kerala for bringing in a
legislation to reserve 50 per cent of seats for women in civic
bodies, she said the Left would press for such a legislation
in Parliament.
