New Delhi: A DNA report has confirmed that Rohit Shekhar is the biological son of Congress veteran leader Narain Dutt Tiwari.

The DNA report was revealed by the Delhi High Court on Friday.

Rohit Shekhar, who was fighting a paternity case against the veteran Congressman, had to struggle a lot to push ND Tiwari to give his blood sample for DNA test.

For 32-year-old Delhi-based youth, it was a battle to relieve himself from being called a ‘bastard’ and prove his claim that he was the biological son of ND Tiwari and his mother Ujjwala Sharma.

In 2008, Rohit, a lawyer, filed a paternity suit to claim that the former Andhra Pradesh governor was his biological father. Since then, he has been engaged in a long court battle to prove his claim, as Tiwari, a three-time chief minister of undivided Uttar Pradesh, avoided submitting a blood sample by taking different legal routes.

Finally, the octogenarian Tiwari had to give his blood sample for DNA test on May 29, 2012 on the directive of the Supreme Court.

According to reports, Rohit has not demanded any financial benefits, but just the acknowledgment that he is Tiwari’s son.

Tiwari was the president of Indian Youth Congress when he met Ujjwala, who was appointed joint secretary in the women’s wing of the Youth Congress.

Tiwari claimed that Rohit was born while Ujjwala was married to BP Sharma.

However, Justice Reva Khetrapal today declared the result of the DNA test conducted at the Hyderabad-based laboratory in the open court and said as per the report, "Tiwari is reported to be the biological father of Rohit Shekhar and Ujjwala Sharma is reported to be the biological mother."
