New Delhi: HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, who was
given the additional charge of Telecom Ministry, on Monday said he
will try his best to do whatever is right in his new role and
every step taken must be "carefully choreographed".
"We will try our best to do whatever is right as we move
forward as we try to take our responsibility properly," he
told reporters here. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave the
Telecom portfolio to Sibal which fell vacant after A Raja
resigned last night over the 2G spectrum scandal.
"You must be watched at every step as you move forward
because that is the purpose of accountability and every step
you move forward must be carefully choreographed," he said.
He felt that the new assignment given to him was like any
other challenge to him.
"Any Ministry alloted is a challenge. The HRD Ministry
was a challenge to me so was the Ministries of Science and
Technology and Earth Sciences," he said.
Sibal, who is likely to take over as the Telecom Minister
tomorrow, said he would not like to comment on anything about
the Ministry till he assumes charge.
"Let me formally take over...let me understand the
issues, then I will come to you".
The lawyer-turned-politician was last week given the
additional charge of Ministries of Science and Technology and
Earth Sciences, which fell vacant after incumbent Prithviraj
Chavan was made Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
When asked why he was chosen by the Prime Minister for
the additional charge of the Telecom Ministry, Sibal said he
does not know the reason.
