Website for women victims of violence launched

`Akshara`, an NGO which works as a women`s resource centre today launched a website www.standupagainstviolence.org devoted for women who are victims of various forms of violence.

Mumbai: `Akshara`, an NGO which works as a women`s resource centre today launched a website www.standupagainstviolence.org devoted for women who are victims of various forms of violence.
The website was launched by Bollywood actress Nandita Das and Dr Indu Shahani, Principal of H R College.

"To have a website or helpline women can keep their confidentiality and find way to navigate out of all that. A website can reach beyond a nation," Das said.

Elisa Zenck, Information officer of Akshara told PTI that it is a great opportunity for women to get information on how to seek help and get out of the situation.

"Information on support organisations are provided on the website wherein a women can approach and seek counselling.

Also they can avail direct help from the police in that particular area," she said.

The support organisations are set up in 8-9 states and those women who are victims of rape, sexual harassment, sex selection, domestic violence etc can put forward their grievances before the police by going through the website, she added.

The event was organised at the H R College in south Mumbai with the participation of Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) students.

A movie called `Land Gold Women` was also shown on the occasion.
