Don’t be trapped by Govt: ULFA commander to Rajkhowa

Guwahati: Reflecting the differences in ULFA`s
top leadership, its elusive `commander-in-chief` Paresh Baruah
today asked the group`s `chairman` Arabinda Rajkhowa not to
fall into the "trap" of Indian government by holding a
dialogue.

"I appeal to you not to fall into the trap of Indian
government and declare your present stand keeping in mind the
sacrifice of 12,000 martyrs who laid down their lives for an
independent Assam as well as the people of Assam who crave for
independence," he said in an email statement.

Baruah said Rajkhowa, `military spokesman` Raju Baruah
and another activist Raja Gogoi have been under the custody of
security forces since December 2.

"The Indian government has `hatched a dirty politics` in
the name of initiating dialogue with the ULFA and we demand
that the Indian government should desist from such an `evil
practice`," he said in the statement issued in Assamese.

Baruah also asked Rajkhowa to clarify his stand publicly
as people of Assam have been in confusion and puzzled over the
recent media reports about the latter`s detention.

"Besides it is your (Rajkhowa) moral responsibility to
clarify your present stand which will help clear the confusion
and puzzle that is engulfing the minds of the people of
Assam," he said.

ULFA firm on demand for sovereignty

ULFA is firm on its demand for
sovereignty despite the arrest of its top leaders, the group`s
`vice chairman` Pradip Gogoi said today and accused
Bangladesh government of betraying it.

"After Bhutan (referring to the operations of Royal
Bhutan Army in 2003 to flush out northeast rebels), Bangladesh
has betrayed us and they (government) should be prepared to
face the consequences," the jailed ULFA leader said.

Gogoi, who was produced before the Kamrup Chief
Judicial Magistrate in connection with a case, told reporters
that there can be no compromise on the issue of sovereignty.

"We cannot leave somebody out and include somebody.
But if the issue of sovereignty is discussed then we may
consider talks without the C-i-C," he said.

"Whether Rajkhowa, Barua or I are present in the talks
process or not, there can be no compromise on sovereignty,"
he asserted.
