Itanagar: One drug peddler was arrested and eight kg of opium was seized from him by the personnel of Assam Rifles (AR) during a routine check from Jairampur in Changlang district.
The drug peddler was caught by AR at its mobile check post at Lal Bridge in the town recently, a press release said here on Tuesday.
Pratap Mahto, who hails from Kovin village, was on his way from Sorulongvi to Chamro during the arrest.
During thorough search of his vehicle, 56 bundles (approx 8 kg) of opium was found hidden in the car.
The seized items have been handed over to Jairampur police station. A case has been registered and investigation is on, the press release said.
