Guwahati: Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Friday lambasted Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for failing to hold on to his promise to bring the ULFA to the negotiating table.
"The Chief Minister is sending wrong signals by telling no formal communication has come from the ULFA. He had promised in 2009 that by the end of the year, talks will be held but till now no headway has been made despite the arrest of top leaders," AGP president and Leader of Opposition Chandra Mohan Patowary told reporters here.
The AGP, he said, will play a "positive role" in solving the vexed insurgency problem afflicting the state and promised all cooperation to the government.
"On the issue of peace talks which was initiated by the Prime Minister, the state government has totally failed and there is no headway," he alleged.
The AGP leader alleged that the Chief Minister has
also failed to keep his promises which he had made to the
people of the state last year.
"Gogoi had promised to appoint two lakh unemployed
last year but he has admitted in the Assembly that only 54,000
has been provided appointments", he said.
The Chief Minister had promised to provide bicycles to
the Anganwadi workers but till now it has been not
implemented, Patowary said.
"To top it the chief minister had said at the
beginning of last year that Rs 500 crore will be spent for
development of the state. We have not seen any developmental
works till now and urge the government to provide us
information about the developmetnal activities", the AGP
president said.
