Kohima: Despite consistent efforts by
Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to facilitate a meeting at the highest level among leadership of Naga groups, NSCN(K) has
asserted that such a meeting between its president S S
Khaplang and NSCN-IM chief Isak Chishi Swu is unlikely.
Refuting media reports about visit of Khaplang, the
Burmese Naga, to Nagaland for a meeting with Swu who is now in
New Delhi, as part of FNR initiated Naga reconciliation
process, NSCN-K president?s office in a statement yesterday
said there was "no truth in it (report)".
"NSCN chairman has not given any consent on meeting
Isak," spokesman P Tikhak said in the statement.
At the initiative of FNR, NSCN-IM chairman, NSCN-K
chief and NNC/FGN president S Singiya had signed "Covenant of
Reconciliation" in 2009 at Siang Mai in Thailand.
Although Covenant of Re-conciliation was signed based
on the `historical and political rights` of the Nagas, `unless
the historical and political rights are honoured there is no
question of meeting,` the statement asserted.
NSCN-K chairman agreed to sign the Covenant of
Re-conciliation hoping to bring peace and an end to
fratricidal killings, the statement said.
"But, NSCN-IM are continuing their parleys with that
same agenda and many more secret agendas in hand; which is not
acceptable and hence it is also not possible to reconcile with
the people with an ulterior motive," the spokesman said.
The statement declared that "we withdraw all our
commitment on re-conciliation from those parties who had
committed a national crime by selling the sovereign rights of
the Nagas to the occupational forces".
The group affirmed that `sovereignty` was the only
solution for Nagas, saying "nothing less than it was
acceptable or will be acceptable for the Nagas".
