Kohima: Nagaland Governor PB Acharya extended festive greetings and good wishes to the people and said Durga Puja signified the triumph of truth and righteousness in the struggle between good and evil.

"This festival unites us to work for humanity and well-being of the people and working towards building a just society in which peace and harmony prevails keeping in view that 'service to mankind is service to God'," Acharya said on Friday.

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang hoped that the festival will spread the message of peace, prosperity and goodwill among the people and wished them a happy Durga Puja celebration.

People have been thronging different Durga Puja pandals offering prayers for prosperity and to overcome evil.

Nagaland is a Christian state, but there are a sizeable number of non-Nagas (Hindus) from other parts of the country working and earning their daily bread as government employees and business.

Major celebrations are being held in Dimapur and Kohima, thousands thronging the puja pandals at strategic locations.
