Revised Mizoram voters' list not to cover those in Tripura Bru relief camps

The revision of voters' list in Mizoram being undertaken by the state election department will not cover voters in the six Bru relief camps in Tripura, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manisha Saxena on Tuesday said.

Aizawl: The revision of voters' list in Mizoram being undertaken by the state election department will not cover voters in the six Bru relief camps in Tripura, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manisha Saxena on Tuesday said.

Addressing a press conference here, Saxena said the state election department did not receive any instruction in this regard from the Election Commission of India.

Earlier, the state government had demanded that Brus in the relief camps, who refused to return to Mizoram despite a series of attempts to repatriate them, should be excluded from the list.

The CEO said the reason behind enlisting of more female voters than their male counterparts was because "When women got married, they enlisted as voters in their husbands' constituencies without their names being deleted in their earlier addresses."

She added that the discrepancy could be corrected during the ongoing revision of voters' lists.
