Itanagar: The Doctors Association of Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) Hospital here has decided to shutdown medical services, including emergency, starting from December 16 to 18 next in protest against assault of a medical officer on December 13 last.

The association today staged dharna in the hospital premises here asking the authorities to book the culprits involved in the incident.

It also appealed to the authorities to provide adequate and permanent security in the hospital premises.

A group of around 10 boys along with a girl came to the emergency room and created ruckus at midnight of December 13. One of them violently shoved the doctor who came forward to attend to the patient.

"Health officials should be allowed to perform their duties without fear. There needs to be a change in the mindset of the patient's relatives and attendants towards the doctors," a statement from the association said.

"They were all the while shouting and abusing the doctor and went to attack him physically. This violence is uncalled for and without any provocation," the statement said.

A case has been registered at Itanagar police station but the police is yet to arrest the culprits even though they have the CCTV footages of the ugly incident, the statement added.
