Centre never provides adequate force to Orissa: Naveen

Orissa government on Tuesday claimed that the Centre had never provided it with adequate Central Para-military Force (CPMF) and other logistics to fight naxalites or other extremists.

Bhubaneswar: Orissa government on Tuesday
claimed that the Centre had never provided it with adequate
Central Para-military Force (CPMF) and other logistics to fight
naxalites or other extremists.

"Our requests for more central force to tackle
naxalites and other reasons were never met", Chief Minister
Naveen Patnaik told reporters while reacting to allegation of
inaction in meaningful tackling of naxal menace.
Stating that the state government had been making
frequent demands before the Centre for more CPMF and others
for a long period, Patnaik said those were not addressed
properly at appropriate time.

Claiming that the state government had been doing its
best to fight red radicals, the chief minister said "a number
of meetings have discussed terrorism, extremism and naxalism.
It must be tackled by the Centre in a serious manner."
Patnaik pointed out that due to lack of adequate
central force, the naxalites had stalled welfare and
developmental activities like construction of new roads and
bridges where they (naxalites) were active.
