Bhubaneswar: Orissa Pradesh Youth Congress
chief and MP Pradeep Majhi along with four others was on Tuesday
admitted to a hospital here after their condition deteriorated
due to fasting for the sixth consecutive days, police said.

Majhi, along with his supporters, was staging a hunger
strike since December 30 in front of the state secretariat
demanding loan waiver for the rain-hit farmers in the state.
Earlier, police said at least 11 protesters were
admitted to the Capital Hospital here as their condition
worsened due to fasting at the dharna site.

"Condition of Majhi is stable," a doctor attending to
the agitating Congress MP said.

Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertiliser,
Srikant Jena, who visited the site, said a delegation from the
OPCC will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to apprise him of
the condition of farmers due to unseasonal rain in Orissa.
YC activists in all the districts were also holding
similar protests demanding assistance for farmers.

They are also demanding compensation for the affected
farmers, inclusion of seven coastal districts in the list of
affected areas, crop insurance and other benefits.
