IMD predicts very heavy rainfall in interior Odisha

Odisha will experience rains and some places in the interior parts of the state will get heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure, a bulletin issued by the IMD said on Thursday.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha will experience rains and some places in the interior parts of the state will get heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure, a bulletin issued by the IMD said on Thursday.

"Yesterday's low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal, now lies over northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Bihar and Jharkhand. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level," it said.

Under its influence, the state would experience rain and thundershower at most places in the state, the bulletin said while the IMD warned heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of interior Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha during the next 24 hours.

Though there was no advice for hoisting the Storm Warning Signals at any port, the IMD said gusty surface wind speed from South-Westerly direction reaching upto 45 to 50 kmph may prevail along and off the Odisha coast.

Fishermen were advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.

Meanwhile, many places of Odisha received a good amount of rainfall during the last 24 hours, state Revenue department sources said.
