NCW seeks stringent action in dal scam in Orissa

The NCW chairperson said investigating agencies should go deep into the matter and catch the real culprits in the dal scandal.

Bhubaneswar: Voicing concern over the
supply of rotten pulses to children and pregnant women in
Orissa, the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday demanded
stringent action against those involved in the irregularities.

"I will ask the state government to throughly probe
in to the matter and ensure strong punishment to the people
responsible for feeding contaminated dal to pregnant women and
kids," NCW chairperson Girija Vyas told reporters here.

Stating that the NCW would think about setting up a
committee to look into the supply of rotten dal to women in
the state, Vyas said, "Whoever probes in to the matter, the
guilty must be punished".

"We should not hide facts about this matter as it has
affected the health of pregnant and lactating women," she said
replying to a question as to why the NCW remained silent over
the issue that affected health of over 50 lakh women.

The NCW chairperson said investigating agencies should
go deep into the matter and catch the real culprits in the dal
scandal.
