Berhampur: Authorities in the circle jail at Berhampur in Ganjam district will soon start a
computer training programme for its inmates.
At least 50 inmates, including convicts and under-trial prisoners in the jail, have already enrolled themselves to undergo computer training in the first phase, authorities said.
Life convicts like Janmejay Bira, who passed metric examination this year, are very excited about joining the training course, to be run in association with a charitable
trust.
"I am happy that I will be able to learn something despite being in jail," he said.
Several other inmates are also waiting to do the course, said a jail officer adding computers, books and other required materials as well as trainers are being made available for the programme.
In the six month course, the participants would be trained about the basics of computer, DTP, office application and Tally (accounting package).
"The programme is aimed at imparting training to the jail inmates, so that they can earn their livelihood after release from the prison," said an official of the charitable
trust which has also decided to run computer training programmes in seven other major jails in Orissa.
