Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission Odisha on Tuesday ordered transfer of a police inspector as both the ruling BJD and opposition Congress lodged allegation and counter allegation against each other on charge of model code of violation.
"I have ordered shifting of a police officer after getting allegation of model code violation in the city," SEC Ajit Kumar Tripathy told reporters a day before the polling for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The SEC`s action came following the Congress formally lodged a complaint against the ruling Biju Janata Dal for ?distributing cash? ahead of the BMC polls to buy votes in a number of wards and demanded action against the party.
Congress delegation claimed that the party had evidence of money being distributed in the slums in Ward 40 ( Shanti Nagar, Jharpada Village Area, Laxmisagar BRIT Stage I, II & III) and had informed this to the SEC.
Sources said the inspector in charge of the Laxmisagar Police Station had been transferred following the complaint .
Meanwhile, a six-MLA delegation of the ruling party met the SEC and lodged complaint of model code of violation as the opposition Congress`s dharna at the MG Road as part of their 12-hour hartal demanding resignation of Chief Minister over Shah Commission report.
"While the campaigning for the January 8 election ended since last evening, how can Congress leaders use mike and give anti-Naveen slogan in the name of hartal. This is a clear violation of the code of conduct," pointed out senior BJD MLA Ananta Das.
