Bhubaneswar: Though the mercury level fell across the state and heat wave conditions eased a bit, sun stroke deaths in Odisha rose to 29 on Wednesday.
The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded the highest temperature at 39 degree Celsius with the relative humidity level remaining at 89 per cent.
The IMD predicted further fall in temperatures in the coming days with rainfall at most places across the state.
"Rain and thundershowers may occur at many places over interior parts of Odisha and at few places in the coastal region," the MeT office forecast said.
The weathermen also issued a warning that Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kendrapara and Jajpur districts might experience gale and gusty surface wind reaching 70 kmph speed tomorrow.
The state Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office confirmed the death of 29 people due to sunstroke across Odisha.
The revenue department received reports of 135 deaths, of which 42 cases were found to be due to some other reasons.
Sixty-four other cases were under investigation by the District Collectors.
While the highest number of seven sunstroke casualties were confirmed from Ganjam district, six deaths were reported from Kendrapara, four in Bargarh and two each in Cuttack and Rayagada districts.
This apart, one sunstroke death each was confirmed by the Collectors of Angul, Balasore, Balangir, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nuapada and Puri districts, the SRC officials said.
