Three women Maoists were arrested by security personnel from two forest areas of Odisha's Malkangiri district on Tuesday, police said.

Malkangiri: Three women Maoists were arrested by security personnel from two forest areas of Odisha's Malkangiri district on Tuesday, police said.

Two of the ultras were arrested during a combing operation by BSF and Special Operation Group (SOG) near a village in Mathili area, while another woman was caught from Kalimela area, they said.

The two women arrested from Mathili area were identified as Sambari Madkami (26) and Parbati Padiami (21). The duo had been working for the banned rebel outfit since 2011, they said.

In another operation, the security personnel arrested another lady rebel identified as Debe Urmami (26) who had joined the Maoist activities in 2010, police said.

The arrested women were active in Maoist activities and were playing a major role in organising road blockades by felling trees and placing obstacles during bandhs called by the red rebels, police said, adding they were also engaged in mobilising people for meetings of the ultras.
