Youth held for hacking into Cong leader's ATM account

The cyber cell of the Crime Branch of Odisha Police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old youth on charge of fradulently withdrawing cash from the bank account of a Congress leader by using a stolen ATM card.

Bhubaneswar: The cyber cell of the Crime Branch of Odisha Police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old youth on charge of fradulently withdrawing cash from the bank account of a Congress leader by using a stolen ATM card.

The arrested youth was identified as Nilakantha Pani alias Nilu, a resident of Nayagarh district, an official release of the crime branch said adding that the youth had been booked under section 379, 419, 420 of IPC and section 66-C and 66-D of IT (Amendment) Act, 2008.

The police netted Pani from Nayagarh town while investigating into a complaint lodged by Gurupada Nanda, a senior Congress leader.

A case was registered at the cyber police station in Cuttack on September 16, 2014.

Nanda alleged that he received an SMS from the bank informing that Rs 4,300 was withdrawn from his account. When he enquired about the SMS, Nanda was informed by the bank authorities that Rs 4,39,000 had been withdrawn from his account.

The senior Congress leader also said that he had lost the ATM card earlier, police said adding that the accused youth would be produced before the court.
