Ludhiana: Former chief minister Amarinder
Singh Saturday strongly condemned the conspiracy to eliminate
head of Radha Soami sect Gurinder Singh in Vienna recently
and said Punjab cannot be allowed to become the stage for
terrorism.

He said Punjab government should cooperate with the Centre
so that such incidents taking place in foreign land could be
curbed.

Last year, Sant Niranjan Dass and Sant Ramanand of the Dera
Sachkhand were shot at in Vienna, in which the latter, who was
second in command of the sect, died in the attack.

Four Indians had been detained in Austria over the alleged
plot to attack the Beas (Amritsar)-based sect chief Gurinder
Singh who is currently visiting Europe.

Talking to mediapersons here, Amarinder said he had
recently met the National Security Advisor who had assured him
that the Central government was prepared do any thing to
contain these elements.

He said the SAD-BJP government in Punjab should give a
tough response as attempts could be made by some disgruntled
elements to foment trouble in the state which has gone through
its worst period during the days of militancy in 1980s and
early 1990s.

"Punjab cannot be allowed to become once again the battle
ground for terrorism. The state government must crack down
heavily on such elements. The Akali-BJP government should be
tough in dealing with the terrorists being arrested on its
soil," he said.
