Congress day dreaming of coming back to power: Parkash Singh Badal

Describing the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab as "impeccable and everlasting", Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said Congress was day dreaming of coming back to power in the state by spreading rumours regarding fissures between Akali and BJP.

Muktsar: Describing the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab as "impeccable and everlasting", Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said Congress was day dreaming of coming back to power in the state by spreading rumours regarding fissures between Akali and BJP.

The Chief Minister, who was addressing a gathering on the occasion of Sikh festival of Maghi, said the alliance was firm as it was time and again cemented with love and mutual affection.

He said rumours of strained relations between ruling alliance partners was "just a figment of imagination" of the "frustrated leadership" of Congress, which was "dying" to grab power in the state.

Badal said the state government had "thwarted" every move of the Congress to divide people on religious lines.

The Chief Minister further said the NDA government at the Centre has revived the hope of resolution of long standing social, economic, political and religious issues concerning Punjab.

Badal said the NDA government has already sanctioned big

tickets projects like the one for resolving water logging issue and relining of canals in the state.

On the proposed rally by senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh on January 22 to take on the ruling Akali-BJP alliance, including on the drug issue, the Chief Minister said the opposition party was trying to score brownie points by resorting to such "political tantrums".

Badal said rather than solving the drug issue, Congress was trying to draw "political mileage" out of it.

The Chief Minister also announced that he would soon take up the matter of upgradation of Guru Gobind Singh Marg Phase II with the respective chief ministers of the states that it passes through.

He solicited whole hearted support from Central government to plug the flow of drugs in the state. "The need of the hour is to wage a joint war against this curse," he said.

Badal also listed the steps taken by the state government for curbing the problems of drug and cancer in the state.

He called upon the entire cadre of the SAD-BJP alliance to channelise their energy towards making people aware of hazards of drug abuse, female foeticide, environmental pollution among others.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister and SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, while announcing that year 2015-16 would be observed as the year against social maladies, exhorted his party members to gear up for fighting social evils like drugs and female foeticide.

Sukhbir criticized Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for allegedly branding Punjabis as drug addicts.

On the differences between state Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa and former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Sukhbir said the two leaders failed in managing their own house.

"How would Congress manage the affairs of the state?" he asked.
