Chandigarh: The Punjab University on Monday
conferred Doctor of Literature to eminent author and
journalist Khushwant Singh for his contribution in the field
of journalism and Doctor of Laws to former Lok Sabha Speaker
Somnath Chatterjee at its 60th convocation in Chandigarh.
However, both of them could not attend the convocation
due to their ill health.
Singh and Chatterjee will be conferred with the degree at
a function in Delhi soon, university officials said.
A total of 479 students, including 351 girls, received
their degrees at the Convocation.
Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil was the chief guest on
the occasion, which was also attended by Union Minister for
Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni as a special guest.
