Moga: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said the government would set up separate NRI cells in every district across the state to facilitate non- resident Indians in getting their administrative works done smoothly.

Addressing a gathering of NRIs of Punjab origin, the Chief Minister said the deputy commissioners of every district would be asked to provide a separate room for NRI cell in the respective District Administrative Complexes (DACs) so that the NRIs are able to get their work done in a hassle-free manner.

The cells must be provided with adequate infrastructure, Badal said adding that the formal orders regarding setting-up of these cells would be issued soon.

The Chief Minister further asked the Home Secretary of the state to review the list of NRIs Proclaimed Offenders so that no injustice was done to them, who were not involved in any crime.

He asked the officers to come up with a foolproof mechanism for segregating NRIs against whom no major crime was proved.

Batting for amicable resolution of disputes of the NRIs, the chief minister said that NRI police stations could play a pivotal role in it.

Rather than registering cases in such matters, the NRI police stations must try to resolve these issues with mutual understanding, he said.

Badal also said a five-member committee comprising NRIs would also be set up in every NRI police station so that such matters could be solved with mutual consent.

The chief minister asked the Financial Commissioner Revenue (FCR) to start a statewide campaign for the division of property falling in joint accounts of a family.

He said the revenue department must dedicate the next three months as the NRIs were facing a lot of problems in such matters.

Badal also said the matters pertaining to the land falling within 'Lal Dora' would also be solved soon.
