Jaipur: Members of Gujjar community have once again threatened to revive their agitation demanding five per cent reservation in government jobs, and would hold a 'mahapanchayat' to take a "final call" in Karauli district on Thursday.
Taking note of this, the Rajasthan government said that the "doors were open for talks".
"We began a Nyay Yatra on May 11 and contacted our people in Karauli, Dausa, Bharatpur and nearby areas. The yatra will culminate tomorrow in a village in Karauli tomorrow. Thereafter, a community meeting will take place to decide the further course of action," spokesperson of Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, Himmat Singh said today.
Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla, who spearheaded the Gujjar agitations in the past, is leading the 'Nyay yatra' and will be heading the meeting tomorrow.
"We want five per cent reservation under the legal limit of 50 per cent. The governments have been cheating us for the last several years. We are presently getting only one per cent and we want four per cent more," Singh said.
"If there is any legal hurdle, the government should present its side effectively in the court. It is for the government to see how the long pending issue can be resolved," he said.
In Jaipur, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said that the government's "doors are always open for the talks".
She told reporters in the party office that the matter of Gujjar reservation was subjudice.
However, she said, "The doors of the government are open for the talks."
The community members have been demanding five per cent reservation since 2008.
