Rajasthan clash: Dalit man succumbs to injuries; toll mounts to 5

The death toll from a clash between two groups in Dangawas village of Nagaur has risen to five with a Dalit man, who was injured in the incident, on Saturday succumbing to his wounds at an Ajmer hospital.

Ganpat Ram, who had sustained serious injuries in the clash over a land dispute on May 14, was in a critical condition. He died today.

His family members refused to take the body home since their demand of ordering a CBI probe into the incident was not met.

"His family members have refused to take the body. They are staging a dharna outside the mortuary demanding a CBI probe into the incident," SHO Ajmer Kotwali police station Jitendra Gangwani said.

Meanwhile, SP Nagaur Raghvendra Suhasa said the case was handed over to CID yesterday.

People's Union for Civil Liberties has also demand a CBI probe into the matter.

"The government is yet to take any step in this regard. Local police station staff, who were responsible for the killings, have not been suspended," PUCL general secretary Kavita Srivastava said.

Four persons three from Dalit community and one from Jat community - were killed in the old land-related dispute.

The supporters of Kanaram Jat and Ratna Ram Meghwal, armed with sharp edged weapons and guns had clashed with each other.

While Rampal had died of a bullet shot, three others Ratna Ram, Pokar Ram and Pancha Ram had succumbed to injuries inflicted by other weapons.
