Veteran Congress leader and former chairman of the state commission for disabled persons (Nishakt Janayog) Damodar Thanvi died on Saturday after falling down on a railway platform from a moving train at Jaipur junction here.

Jaipur: Veteran Congress leader and former chairman of the state commission for disabled persons (Nishakt Janayog) Damodar Thanvi died on Saturday after falling down on a railway platform from a moving train at Jaipur junction here.

78-year-old Thanvi was taken to a hospital where he died during medical check up, railway police said.

"Thanvi came here from Phalodi (Jodhpur) in a train this morning. He was sleeping when the train arrived here at 5 am and he woke up when the train was about to leave the station," Hajari Lal, ASI-GRP said.

He hurriedly tried to get off the train, which had started moving by then, but fell on the platform and sustained some internal injury.

He, initially, went to home with his grandson but when he felt after felling uneasy, he went to SMS hospital for check up where he died, he said.

The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem, the ASI said, adding, exact cause of the death would be clear in the autopsy report.

PCC president Sachin Pilot condoled the death of Thanvi, a PCC member who served the party on different positions.
