New Delhi: US space agency NASA has shared an image of the aerial view of the summit of the Mauna Kea volcano on Hawaii Island.
The image taken by a member of the Expedition 45 crew on the International Space Station (ISS), shows tiny white domes and lava flowing atop the volcano.
Mauna Kea, or "white mountain," is a dormant volcano believed to have last erupted some 4,500 years ago. It is called the white mountain because its slopes often are dusted with snow during winter.
Also, India along with Japan, the US, China and Canada has plans to set up world's biggest telescope in Hawaii Island. The 30-metre telescope, also known as TMT, will help astronomers to study stars which have their origin dated 200 million to 400 million years after the Big Bang.
