Peshawar: At least 10 militants were killed
in clashes with security forces and air strikes in northwest
Pakistan`s restive Aurakzai tribal region on Thursday, officials
said.
Four militants were gunned down by security forces during
clashes in Mirobak area of Aurakzai, they said, adding a
security personnel was also injured in the fighting.
Troops also arrested militant commander Mian Gul and
captured several rebel strongholds, the officials said.
Six more militants were killed and five injured when
fighter jets targeted their hideouts in Dabori area.
Three militant hideouts were destroyed in the air
strikes.
Security forces have killed dozens of militants and
destroyed rebel hideouts, bunkers and an ammunition dump in
Aurakzai over the past two days.
Officials said a majority of the dead militants belonged
to Aurakzai and South Waziristan regions.
Meanwhile, former Taliban commander Hafiz Sakhi announced
that he would support security forces fighting the militants
in Aurakzai.
In another incident, three persons were kidnapped at
gun point from a vehicle near Tor Chappar in Kurram tribal
region.
