5.9-magnitude moderate quake hit Pak, no casualty reported

The earthquake with a focal depth 157 kms hit different parts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

Peshawar: A 5.9-magnitude moderate earthquake on Sunday jolted parts of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakthunkhwa province but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The earthquake with a focal depth 157 kms hit different parts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa in northwest Pakistan at 14.12 hours, said a spokesman for Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

The epicentre of the quake was at Hindu Kush mountain range inside Afghanistan at a depth, PDMA said.

The US Geological Survey put the magnitude at 5.5.

So far no loss of life was reported from anywhere.

The area which felt the tremor include northwestern cities and tribal regions like Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat and Bajaur tribal agency.

More than 300 people were killed in Pakistan and Afghanistan in 7.5-magnitude quake last year.
