Islamabad: A senior member of an anti-
Taliban militia and his son were gunned down by militants in
the restive Bajaur tribal region of northwest Pakistan today,
officials said.
Malik Afsar Khan, the senior member of the "peace
committee" and his son Sher Alam Khan were killed by the
militants in Navapass area near the border with Afghanistan
this morning, officials of the political administration said.
Security forces and militia members went to the area
after the killings and arrested some suspects.
Khan and his son were manning a post when the militants
suddenly attacked them.
Khan was an influential tribal chief who had backed
government`s war against terror and had received threats from
militants.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Taliban have killed scores of pro-government tribal
elders and members of their families in attacks across the
tribal belt in the past few years.
