Baloch scholar shot dead in Quetta Quetta: Renowned Baloch scholar, writer and poet Professor Saba Dashtyari was shot dead at Sariab Road in Quetta on Wednesday.

Professor Dashtyari was critically wounded by unidentified assailants fired at him. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Balochistan University will remain closed on Thursday to mourn the professor’s death, The Dawn reports.

Dashtyari taught Islamic Studies at the Balochistan University. He had authored over 24 books on Balochi literature, history, poetry and translations. He also established the Pakistan’s largest library on Balochi literature, Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi reference library. Dashtyari also compiled an index and bibliography of Balochi literature published in the past 50 years.

I knew Saba Dashtyari personally. He was a charming man who worked with determination for what he believed in. He was aware of his fate and was expecting his assasination since long ago. He continued fearlessly because the saw no ther option for Baluch in Pakistan.
