Kathmandu: UK Army chief Gen. David Julian
Richard on Sunday reviewed key welfare programmes for the Gorkha
soldiers, who have been part of the British Army for almost
200 years.
Gen Richard, who is here here on an official visit,
also called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
He is scheduled to attend various programmes to be
launched by British Gorkha Nepal`s Area Welfare Centre in the
capital tomorrow. The top military official visited British
Gorkha Camp in Pokhara yesterday and attended a programme
organised by the Welfare Centre. The fearsome Nepalese
fighters are among the most decorated in the British force.
The Army Chief is scheduled to meet Defence Minister
Vidya Bhandari and his counterpart Gen Chhatraman Singh Gurung
and discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the two armies.
The world-famous Nepalese Gorkha soldiers have been an
integral part of the British Army for almost 200 years.
