Kathmandu: UK Army chief Gen. David Julian Richard on Sunday reviewed key welfare programmes for the Gorkha soldiers, who have been part of the British Army for almost 200 years.

Gen Richard, who is here here on an official visit, also called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.

He is scheduled to attend various programmes to be launched by British Gorkha Nepal's Area Welfare Centre in the capital tomorrow. The top military official visited British Gorkha Camp in Pokhara yesterday and attended a programme organised by the Welfare Centre. The fearsome Nepalese fighters are among the most decorated in the British force.

The Army Chief is scheduled to meet Defence Minister Vidya Bhandari and his counterpart Gen Chhatraman Singh Gurung and discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the two armies. The world-famous Nepalese Gorkha soldiers have been an integral part of the British Army for almost 200 years.
