EU human rights delegation in Pakistan

Pakistan on Tuesday said it is committed to protecting human rights despite challenges and special emphasis is being given to safeguarding the rights of women and minorities.

Islamabad: Pakistan on Tuesday said it is committed to protecting human rights despite challenges and special emphasis is being given to safeguarding the rights of women and minorities.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz stated this today during a meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament`s Sub-Committee on Human Rights.

The delegation was led by Ana Gomes and included Andrzej Grzyb, Member of the European Parliament.

Aziz highlighted the efforts of the new government to improve the living standards of the people and protect their fundamental rights.

He said the government has given special emphasis to protecting the rights of women, minorities and children.

Aziz stressed that despite challenges, the resolve of the government to protect human rights is unwavering, a statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The EU delegation is visiting Pakistan during August 26-28.

During the visit, the delegation will be interacting with government functionaries and representatives of political parties and civil society organisations on the subject of human rights.
