Peshawar: A powerful bomb went off in a congested market in Bannu city of northwest Pakistan on Thursday, injuring at least 12 people, police said.

The blast occurred in the market near Preety Gate in Bannu.

Witnesses said the blast occurred soon after an unidentified man left a bag outside a shop. The suspect managed to escape from the scene.

Officials described the condition of four of the injured as critical.

The injured were rushed to the nearby District Headquarters Hospital, where an emergency was declared.

This was the first terrorist attack in the region since the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan.

The blast created panic among local residents.
